>>>>>>>ALERT - SPECIAL NEWS
Issue to watch -Reauthorization of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) to inform NFIP policyholders, industry partners, government officials, and other stakeholders. Congress must periodically renew the NFIP’s statutory authority to operate. On December 22, 2017, the President signed legislationpassed by both houses of Congress that extends the NFIP’s authorization for four more weeks. It previously had been set to expire at midnight on December 22, 2017. Congress must now reauthorize the NFIP by no later than January 19, 2018. If cancelled - FEMA would still have authority to ensure the payment of valid claims with available funds. However, FEMA would stop selling and renewing policies for millions of properties in communities across the nation. Property owners who are required to have flood insurance would be unable to complete new mortgage transactions. The National Association of Realtors estimates that a lapse might result in the delay or cancellation of approximately 40,000 home sale closings per month nationwide. Environment Day at the Capitol
Feb. 7, 8:30 AM - 2:00 PM. The theme is “Save Our Environment: Act Now!” On this day, environmental advocates from around the state (novice to experienced) gather at the Arizona State Capitol to meet with state legislators to express support for rivers and streams, clean air, land conservation, wildlife, and more. After a brief orientation and legislative update, attendees go with an experienced leader from their own Legislative District to meet with his or her own legislators. It is a great opportunity to learn more about the legislative process and the issues and to make a difference. For our District 1, Ann Hutchinson (New River) and Gary Beverly (Prescott) will be the main leads. If you would like to learn more and/or participate, please contact Ann at firstname.lastname@example.org or 623-293-8628.
