Fire Bans in Effect
Maricopa County Parks has implemented a fire ban to limit the possibility of starting a brush fire, which could cause serious damage to the parks. The fire ban includes the use of campfires, fire pits, and charcoal grills. Click HERE for more.
Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department has banned open fires in the city’s desert and mountain preserves starting Tuesday, May 1, 2018 due to the extreme fire danger that the combination of low humidity, increasing temperatures and frequent high winds create each spring. Deer Valley Unified School District (includes Deer Valley Elementary School) participates in the federal National School Lunch and Breakfast Programs. The program allows DVUSD to offer both breakfast and lunch meals at discounted prices for those students who qualify under the programs income guidelines.
Temporary Fire Station 55 in North Phoenix will expand from part-time to full-time operations by May 1 as reported by Vice Mayor Thelda Williams and Councilman Jim Waring. The temporary station will operate every day on a 24-hour schedule. Not only does this improve response times in the area, it provides our firefighters resources they need to respond to increasing demand. Construction on the permanent site for Fire Station 55 at Interstate 17 and Jomax Road is scheduled to begin in the summer and is expected to be completed in late 2019.
NEW - AFFECTS 911 Calls
Effective midnight on April 26, 2018, the new law prohibits prosecuting people for possession or use of a controlled substance or drug paraphernalia if they, in good faith, seek medical assistance for someone experiencing a drug related overdose and if the evidence for the charge was gained as a result of seeking medical assistance. The new statute also provides the same immunity for the person experiencing a drug related overdose for whom medical assistance was sought.
Congratulations: The grant submitted by the Kiwanis Club of New River for Community Park trail improvements was approved by the State Parks Board on Saturday, April 21. There's a few steps left between October and May before work can begin. Congratulate Ed Taylor ... and volunteer to help (grant requires community involvement).
